According to Twitter, Truro seems to have voted YES in the AV referendum
Referendum’s are a rare feature in our nation’s political process,
but yesterday the country was asked today to vote on whether we wish to change
to the Alternative Voting system – and by the looks of Twitter, Truro will be
voting YES.
Cornwall Says YES
to AV
Although our sample process is by no means scientific, an
unofficial poll in Twitter-land suggests more local people are voting YES to
AV. Some are campaigners, others
passionate, and a few just disillusioned and searching for change.
-
Social_Berry - @truropeople
#yestoav
-
Bootsofgeekdom - Yes I've voted.
Yes. Yes I have.
-
Paulturner66 - @truropeople #yes2av
-
Spankyrogers - @truropeople I
voted YES, I think any vote to keep the status quo is a mistake, not sure AV is
right either but we need CHANGE
-
SittingByTheSea - Just voted
#YES2AV Quick, easy and didn't hurt. I was the only one at the polling station.
Why not go and enjoy your democratic right too.
-
cernyw - I still can't
fathom how the threat of broken promises and coalitions is a #no2av argument?
that's what we have now under FPTP. #yes2av
-
fauxcornishgirl - @truropeople av wd be good for this
constit
-
Marchthefury - Just voted
for the first time - #yes2av - now getting the last of these leaflets out in
Truro. Vote yes!
-
TheCoveCornwall - @social_berry #yes2AV of course!
-
Echoesanddust - Remember, the
Tories got in to power with only 23% of the vote under the current system, no
wonder they don't want you to change it. #yes2av
-
NigelPearceBude - I am
delivering leaflets in Bude asking people to vote YES today for AV
-
ek6891 - Today: wrote to my MP about #Dorries, paid deposit

- @truropeople People at #Truro polling station said very low turn out approx
25% - COME ON PEOPLE USE YOUR VOTE #Yes2av
Cornwall Says NO
to AV
Now we run
the risk of seeming biased, but of the (nearly) 800 people that follow us on
Twitter – NONE of them responded to let us know they had voted NO. Even a trawl through the day’s timeline only
found a couple of ushered negatives.
-
Russell
Hide - RT @NO2AV: UK has just 15 hours to save its democracy today
-
.......That was it. (If you
were a NO and want to even out the disproportionate lists, let us know in the
comments below).
Cornwall Makes
JOKES about AV
Of course, amid all the seriousness and plethora of
hash-tags, some people were having fun with the AV referendum. Here are some of the mirth inducing 140
character sound-bites.
-
Moonrockguy - Voted 'yes' on
alternative vote but put 'no' as my second choice
-
Clementshawes - You
already have an alternative voting system - it's called not bothering #fact
-
BarnabyEdwards - I voted for Aliens
in the end. I couldn't stomach the current Predator system any longer #AVP
-
PiquePerfumes - @CllrAWallis No, honestly there was actually
a queue. Also 4 people leaving as we went in. So I reckon I saw 10 in all -
almost a stampede!
-
Crowmogh - I did try to
vote, where I usually vote, but they have changed my polling station, is this a
ploy by the Tories to stop me? #confused
-
CllrAWallis - “@TwopTwips”:
SHOW your wife that you understand 'AV' by telling her she's your no.1 then
sh*g her sister. /via @ScurrilousFacts”
-
Tomstubbs -
George Bush is #no2av so vote yes to annoy him
-
L_e_d_g_e - If
you haven't voted in the AV referendum and dont care can you go and vote YES
anyway. It will annoy the hell out of the To*** #YES2AV
Have your
say.
Which was
did you vote today? If you didn’t vote,
why not? Do you agree/disagree with any
of our Tweeters, or perhaps you saw more NO to av campaigners than we did?

Shame on you for voting No! Never had you as a person who didn't want to rock the boat. Seriously with Nick clegg leading the charge for change he was never likely to suceed.
