Truro to Falmouth road closed in part due to flooding

The A39 at Perranarworthal between Falmouth and Truro has been close due to flooding. Police set up diversions at around 4pm at the Norway Inn and at Treluswell after the river burst its banks and flooded the road.

Meanwhile a flood warning is in place for the Helford and Fal rivers covering The Lizard, Penryn, Falmouth, Truro, Ladock, Tresillian and Grampound. The Environment Agency says the band of heavy rain is expected to track south across the West Cornwall area and may continue throughout the night.

Unlike the floods which devastated parts of Mid Cornwall in November 2010, this time the whole county is being affected by the severe weather conditions.

Over the weekend more than 230 staff from Cornwall Council's highways, environment and fire crews spent the weekend dealing with hundreds of incidents around the county involving flooded roads and properties and fallen trees. The latest reports show that around 114 properties were flooded across Cornwall.

The Cornwall fire and rescue service received more than 520 emergency calls over the two days, with the Council's customer contact centre receiving a further 1,100 calls from 4pm Saturday to midnight on Sunday.
