Thousands Raised in the Moonlight
Falmouth hosted the much anticipated Moonlight Memory Walk on Saturday night and saw over 400 ladies walk the 5 mile route around Falmouth in aid of Children's Hospice South West (CHSW).
The estimated total money raised in pledged sponsorship on the night hit in the region of £35,000 - an incredible figure to celebrate the fifth year anniversary of the Moonlight Memory Walk being held in Falmouth.
Hundreds of ladies donned colourful fancy dress and gathered on The Moor to take part in a beautiful candle lit ceremony in memory of their loved ones. There was a reading from members of the Care Team at Little Harbour, followed by a minute's silence and the beautiful song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" played by Pirate FM, which gave everyone time to reflect on their special memories. The ladies then got energised with a warm up by Ian from Stringers Gym in Truro and then set off on the walk at 10pm. On their return, walkers were greeted with a special fifth anniversary Moonlight Memory Walk medal, a pasty, hot drink and a goody bag.
Emma Lloyd, Head of Fundraising at Little Harbour, says "It was a perfect evening to celebrate the fifth anniversary of our Moonlight Memory Walk in Falmouth. It was incredibly moving to see so many women out walking in memory of their loved ones and very inspiring. A wonderful evening!"
For some ladies, it was the first time they had taken part in the event, but for others it was their fifth year and each time they have chosen a different fancy dress theme. Families who use CHSW's hospices, as well as local businesses and individuals, all gathered together with the same intention – to raise as much money as possible for CHSW whilst remembering their loved ones.
Ladies are now encouraged to send in their sponsorship money to Little Harbour by the 1st November; everyone who has raised over £100 and sends their money in by this date, will be entered into a prize draw to win dinner for two at The Greenbank Hotel in Falmouth. The lady who has raised the most money overall from the event will win a hamper of goodies including six free haircuts and various L'Oreal products generously donated by Rococo Hair and Beauty Salon in Truro.
The money raised from this special event will go straight towards the care and support that is offered to life limited children and their families, including parents, brothers and sisters and grandparents at Little Harbour children's hospice in St Austell. Costing over £2 million a year to run, donations and sponsorship from events like the Moonlight Memory Walk are vital for the charity to keep being able to provide the much needed care and support to local families.
CHSW would like to thank all of the ladies who took part in the walk and helped raise such a wonderful amount of money for Little Harbour as well as the volunteers and marshals who helped ensure that the event ran like clockwork.
A massive thank you also goes to the following individuals and organisations for supporting the event in various ways: Falmouth Town Council, Pirate FM, Packet Newspapers, Rococo Hair and Beauty, The Greenbank Hotel, St Eval Candle Company, Jamie Reed and team from Farmhouse Studios, Ian from Stringers Gym, Richard, Dean and Stefan from Fal Fire Protection, DPD Cornwall Depot, Falmouth Police, The Cliff Head Hotel – St Austell, County Confectionary Company Ltd.
