Industry experts launch PR and marketing training business

 

The skills and expertise of two award winning PR and

marketing specialists have been brought together to support businesses in

Truro.

Piece of Cake Training has been created by Sam White and

Suzie Smith, who work as both industry experts and as professional lecturers

and teachers in their subjects of expertise.

The business was an organic response to the growing demand

for training and support for small and medium sized businesses that simply

can't afford expensive monthly retainers.

The courses are being delivered in Truro and Sam said: "We recognised that while many business owners in

Cornwall want public relations and marketing support the cost is often

prohibitive. However, having talked to many clients each identified that they

had someone working within their business that could be trained to do this

in-house – which is where we step in."

Piece of Cake Training provides a range of courses from the

basic level introduction to PR and marketing, through to writing skills and

social media advice. The business also provides crisis communications support

to help avert negative publicity and advanced skills training for those wanting

to take things further in terms of strategy and branding.

Sam and Suzie can also be hired as mentors and coaches to

work on a one-to-one basis.

On Thursday, November 15, between 11.30am and 2.30pm Piece

of Cake Training is holding a 'meet and eat' session at the Academy of

Innovation and Research (AIR), at University College Falmouth's Tremough

Campus. Businesses and individuals are invited to come along to find out more

about the courses, meet Sam and Suzie and try some of their fantastic cakes.

Suzie said: "There are so many agencies and individuals

offering media training as a sideline to other work they carry out, but we felt

there was a clear need for a business solely dedicated to training, coaching

and mentoring with no other distractions.

"It means that 100 per cent of our time is committed to

creating and refining the content of courses, which is paramount in a

constantly evolving media industry."

Bookings are currently being taken for the first Piece of

Cake Training courses being held in Truro on November 29, December 6 and

December 13 – details can be found on the company website.

The name Piece of Cake Training came from the pair's love of

baking: "Every course will have one of our signature cakes baked especially for

the delegates," said Sam.

When not baking Sam delivers the Planning and Strategy module

on the BA Advertising course at University College Falmouth and Suzie is a

regular guest lecturer on the BA Journalism degree. Suzie also teaches on the A

Level Media course at Truro College and has been delivering PR training

workshops to businesses and organisations for several years.

Unlocking Cornish Potential uses Suzie as a mentor to work

with graduates who are working as media professionals in business. Both are

working towards their professional academic teaching qualifications.

Suzie's industry knowledge spans 15 years of working in

local, regional and national press as a print and broadcast journalist, editor

and senior manager. Having moved into the field of PR, Suzie was thrilled to

win the coveted Best Freelance Practitioner Award last winter at the Chartered

Institute of Public Relations awards.

Sam has been working in marketing and advertising for more

than 16 years. Her career started in London working for some of the country's

most prestigious agencies such as M&C Saatchi and Joshua G2 before

relocating to Cornwall a few years ago.
