HMV announces store closures but Truro to stay open

It's reported 66 HMV stores are to be closed over the next two months but Truro isn't one of them. Those earmarked for closure employ 930 staff.

The Truro branch had been facing an uncertain future since the administrators were called in last month.

The high street music and DVD chain is said to have been struggling for some time against online rivals.

At the time the HMV group issued a statement saying: "the Board regrets to announce that it has been unable to reach a position where it feels able to continue to trade outside of insolvency protection, and in the circumstances therefore intends to file notice to appoint administrators to the Company and certain of its subsidiaries with immediate effect."

"The Directors of the Company understand that it is the intention of the administrators, once appointed, to continue to trade whilst they seek a purchaser for the business."
