With the end of the summer holidays fast approaching, horseracing fans are in for a treat at Newton Abbot Racecourse with two sets of back-to-back fixtures taking place at the course between Wednesday 21st August and Sunday 1st September.
The course will host evening fixtures on Wednesday 21st and Thursday 22nd August, the first evening fixture to take place since the triumphant Ladies' Day fixture in June. As part of the evening double, the course is holding a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for twenty five horseracing novices or enthusiasts to go behind the scenes on a raceday and learn more about what happens and what to look out for.
As part of the session, which is now fully-booked, the lucky racegoers will be taken on a tour around the course, walking the route that the horses take from the stables to the track, seeing the fences up-close and visiting the front of the weighing room.
They'll also be given a talk on how to read the racecard, how bets are placed and what to look for in a horse as it walks around the Parade Ring. To finish the experience, the group will also be taken into the Parade Ring to choose the best turned out horses in the evening's races and present the prizes to the winning connections.
Discussing the forthcoming fixtures, Patrick Masterson, said: "We've got a bumper fortnight of fixtures to really celebrate the end of the summer holidays with a bang. With the fixtures taking place in the evenings and at the weekend, hopefully it will allow as many as possible to come and enjoy the end of summer with us at the course.
"The behind-the-scenes experience is a fantastic opportunity for those that are new to the sport. We hope that the lucky racegoers will learn a lot more about the world of horseracing and will become familiar faces at the course.
"We're also delighted to welcome the team from Newton Abbot-based recruitment specialists, BlueGlue, who join us for their annual summer staff away day and are our sponsors for the evening on Wednesday."
Explaining the decision to hold their staff summer away-day at the racecourse, Ashleigh Macfarlane, Marketing Manager for BlueGlue, said: "Each year we hold a summer away day for all of the company where the team from both our Newton Abbot and Reading offices come together to enjoy a day of activities away from the office and recharge our batteries ready for the rest of the year.
"In the past we've gone for water-based activity days so this will be the first time that we've enjoyed a day on dry land. We're all incredibly excited about our visit and are delighted to be able to sponsor the day's racing."
With offices in both Newton Abbot and Reading, BlueGlue offer recruitment services for UK high growth tech start-ups including Zoopla and Photobox.
The behind-the-scenes experience is now fully booked, however tickets are still on sale for both of the course's evening fixtures.
The first of the evening's racing on Wednesday 21st takes place at 5:40pm, with the first race on Thursday 22nd taking place at 5:25pm. Children aged 16 and under, plus students with a valid student ID or NUS card, can enjoy free entry.
Tickets are on sale now at www.newtonabbotracing.com or by calling 01626 353235. Tickets will also be available on the gate on the day.
